Nice, I will try for sure when ready! I always liked modding in racing games, but also in other games as well. I started some years ago with rFactor, F1 codemasters, NSGP and finally I managed to draw circuits for this great game. It's been a pleasure learn this.

As for your mod, it's cool to have some new guys interested in the historic grand prixs, Fangio, Clark, Hill...

A cool thing to have in a future MRO version would be something like this:

-MOD loader!!! (hope Kotai will read this) :3D:

-The MOD will be basically a file that contains info to load bots+tracks+sounds to play your custom championships offline

Like in rFactor. Maybe one day MRO Steam will be real and we will have all these possibilities.

Anyway, be careful to drive with Jim Clark in Hockenheim ;) Those were drivers!

Thanks for the compliments and the greetings in Dutch. :D I used google translate to translate your sentences. Hahaha

Your enthousiasm is nice. I edited the tachometer. I don't know how to get a working pointer on the fuel gauge so I edited the bar that normally shows the fuel level. And I edited the temperature icon. It is now a red light that will only get red when the temperature is really high and of course when the engine is damaged.

I haven't really played rFactor, mainly because I'm not that interested in most of the cars. Maybe I will get interested. :) But I have F1 2012 and Grand Prix Legends with some mods. A MOD loader would be nice! I'm thinking of editing the menus, I think it's not that time consuming... Now about the cockpit! I probably will change it a bit more, but for now, this is the result and I'm rather pleased with it. The colours are fairly compatible with the overall look of the game. I was inspired by the cockpit of a Lotus 25 and used the red of that cockpit, but made it a bit darker. Anyway, I think it adds to the immersion, which is of course one of the main goals of modding, at least in my point of view.

Now I come to think of it, the whole OSD has to look more retro, maybe like an old pitboard. :) Waaaah, so many things to mod! I think the botpack is good enough. Everyone can tweak it easily so I'm not concerned about balance problems. So if you want it, I can probably upload and link it.

Thanks for the vid! It's really nice footage. Via twitter I got a link to beautiful footage of the 1955 Belgium Grand Prix in Spa.
I become so happy when I watch those cars and hear their engines. By the way, if you get the botpack, I think you would like the engine sounds. So much better than the normal engine sound! And besides that, the old engines sound gritty and powerful, they make you want to drive full out, so you can enjoy the higher revs.

And now it's time to sleep...

It's 1950, the Alfa Romeos, Talbots and Ferraris are lined up. The drivers are ready to fight for the win or just to survive the race in these dangerous racing times.

Just finished the 1950 botpack including 13 drivers and 4 constructors from 1950. My signature shows the grid, with a Maserati in the front, followed by a Talbot, Fangio's Alfa Romeo starting 4th and Ascari's Ferrari in 6th place. Historically, this grid is bullshit because the Alfa Romeos were extremely dominant throughout 1950. I used a premade Alfa Romeo model (F150-Alfa_Romeo-158-A1var0_93.bmp) to create the other car templates. I used the race entry numbers from 1950, although it's not easy to recognize them during a race. The yellow Talbot of Johnny Claes is, though. And you can see the difference between the constructors.

:D Well, I think I would, but for now, I need more time to work on it. This week I've got a bit more time for this stuff so I hope I can give an update during this week. I want to make a whole 50's/60's skin out of it.

As there was no DRS and KERS, I drive in those cars without using them. And of course there were no wings (until the late 60's), so the wings setting should in fact be disabled or non-existent. About the same is true for the tires. There's just too much modern about the game to fully get the 50's feeling, maybe the developers will one day have time to add a vintage mode of the F1 part of the game. I think the bot packs are good enough, and because it's easy to change their settings I find no use in finetuning it. I added one black car from the English ERA team, driven by Cuth Harrison to add to the variety.

The OSD is the way it is because I don't know how to show the fuel level in a similar way as the RPM is shown. The RPM meter is okay, so is the little red light. There's really not a lot to add to that. Maybe I could make the OSD a bit more gritty, but as far as I saw, the old dashboards didn't look that gritty at all. Anyway, if you have any suggestions for the dashboard, don't hesitate of course!

First thing will be the old pitboard look, instead of the TV-styled infobars. Concerning the radiomessages, it passed through my mind to disable them. The drivers had to depend on themselves, pitboard messages and pitstops to get any information about the race. I could replace the radiomessages by old pitboard styled messages, but it would be a bit silent then, with the radiovoices muted and all.

This is what I have right now. I stretched the letters and numbers in the font file and edited all of the background boxes. There's still some editing to go, but the sidebar with the driver positions and so on is one of the most important parts I think.

Haha, thanks. Some parts are not okay yet. You can see for example that 'Stefanus', '30.521' and '1 - 0.644' are positioned diagonally, fitting in the original TV-setting, instead of standing in a column. As far as I know there's nothing to do about that. At least the look is more fitting now. What is needed now is that the circuits should be like the versions of the 50's. And the menus should ooze the 50's, like in Grand Prix Legends.

Hello!

I wasn't able to work on it for a time but now I have a bit more time on my hands. The 1950 models I made are all derived from the Alfa Romeo that was drawn by A1var0_93. The bitmap is F150-Alfa_Romeo-158-A1var0_93.bmp and it is included in the huge file with all kinds of cars in the Downloads section. Maybe inclusion of F2 cars would be nice. Of course their performance would be less than the F1 cars.

Almost all of the F1 cars that competed in 1950 were either Alfa Romeos, Ferraris, Talbot-Lagos or Maseratis. Some of the drivers only competed in one or two races, so I did not include all of them in the list I made. Because of that, the Indy 500 racers are not included. And the race was only attended by Americans and not by any of the other drivers. One would need a whole other set of drivers and cartemplates for that, and of course the Indy 500 track from 1950.

Cuth Harrison drove 3 races for the team in 1950. That is the main reason why I added an ERA. Another reason was variety. I changed the original bmp of the Alfa Romeo by A1var0_93 a little bit. Although the other cars are different from the template I used, I hereby thank the designer for his design, the F150-Alfa_Romeo-158-A1var0_93.bmp.

I will work on it a bit more, maybe adding some more participants (minimum of two attended races).

The engine sounds of the 50s cars are obviously different from the cars of the late 60s. Luckily I found some soundfiles that I could use for the 50s cars.

See you soon! I have to go now.
