Championship Mode Result Calculating

Notapor Baegger » Vie Feb 12, 2021 10:04 am

Hi Kotai,
i have a question about the calculation of the championship results.

Because we drive several groups in the mro world championship, we have some special overlapping stuff.

For example in the last race, in group 1 Junkert's network fell after 29 of 32 laps. So Schumi91 and others overtook him. After adding the results manually (because of an error ingame it didn't upload automatically in group 1), everythink looked like expected, Junkert with 29 laps, Schumi91 with 31 laps.
But after race 3, everything changed. Because the incredible south americans were much faster, one more time, Schumi91 now has 2 laps less counted. So question 1: How is this calculated, if we only upload the overall time and laps of Schumi? How does the champ mode decides if he was lapped once, twice, or whatever.

But more irritating for me is, that now Junkert is ahead of Schumi with also 2 laps back? That would be 30 laps, but in his result only 29 laps are filled in? So question 2: What's up in this case?

Greetings
Baegger

Yeah, Baegger. It's hard to have a perfect solution with lapped guys with different groups.

In championships like MRO Zero where we put the results and classifications together on our own forums, we've already debated this question. Our solution has been to calculate the results always using the winner as the reference (I suspect it's what happens in the championship mode too).

This means we can have the following scenario in a circuit where the average lap is 30 seconds and the race has 40 laps:

Group 1 - Driver A and Driver B are fighting for position. They enter last lap and it's Driver A who's ahead, with a total time of 20:00.000, while B is 5 seconds behind with a total of 20:05.000.
In that last lap Driver A does not have enough fuel to finish the race, so Driver B finishes the lap and wins Group 1 with a final time of 20:35.000.

Then we have Group 2, where we have very fast drivers and the winner crosses the line with a final time of 19:55.000, after 40 laps. This time is quicker than the time drivers in group 1 took to complete 39 laps. This means drivers A and B were lapped. Therefore, on the final results their last lap didn't happen and driver A will be classified ahead of driver B, it will be like he never had fuel issues.

This may seem a bit unfair, but the truth is that if everyone was racing together, drivers A and B would have never started the last lap. In order to avoid inconsistent decisions, in our championship we've decided to always take the winner as reference and calculate things as if everyone had raced together.

I understand how it should work.
But how it's possible, that Junkert has in his result 29 laps, but is calculated as driven 30 laps? This shouldn't be possible?
